A Bed & Breakfaft Gem In Alloa
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

I visit Falkirk for work about once a month and travel to Alloa (approx 13 miles) to stay at Garvally House and would recommend anyone to do the same. The beds are the most comfortable you will ever sleep on and take a little extra time to enjoy the excellent breakfast.

Fabulous Guest House !

Naomi and Michael welcomed us both into their lovely guest house, our room was huge ( the green room ) and a great walk in shower.
Breakfast was exceptional, fresh fruit home made yoghurt and breads, and of course fabulous cooked breakfast.
Nice touches, whiskey night cap for my husband and homemade cake for me !!
Thank you Naomi and Michael, keep it up 🙂

I usually stay in hotels when away on business but opted for the Garvelly House based on the positive reviews. I stayed in David’s Room positioned at the front of the property. The room exceeded expectations in that its amenities compare favourably to most 5 star hotels I have stayed in. Well proportioned room with large en-suite fitted with his and hers sinks, power shower.
The usual tea/coffee facilities but with a complimentary cake and tot of whisky which is a nice touch.

Hosts Michael and Naomi are very welcoming. Went to a great pub with its own beer and reasonably priced good food on Michaels’ advice. Naomi is a brilliant cook and provided a fantastic breakfast using their own produce and locally sourced ingredients. I travel the world on business and am struggling to remember a better breakfast anywhere.

Many thanks for an enjoyable stay.

Everything about Garvally is the best. Way better than many 5 star hotels I have stayed in. Homemade bread, yoghurt and jam for breakfast served with a smile by Naomi and Michael. Beautiful house modernised to top standards. Well worth a visit. Excellent!

We stayed for two separate nights during a tour of Scotland. It is very comfortable and well-appointed and the owners are very friendly and helpful. There are only two rooms so it is never very busy. The room we stayed in was large with a large en-suite shower room, the facilities were very good and everything was spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were also superb. We wouldn’t hesitate in returning here in the future.

Once in a while, its a pleasure to stay at an outstanding B&B. Garvally House offers a large room with bathrobe and sandals (hotel standard) provided. The breakfast offers four choice for main like smoked haddock, french toast with smoked salmon etc on top of the usual bacon, eggs and sausage combo. Michael and Naomi are helpful and offered good advice for dining options around Alloa. If you drive and am visiting Sitrling, Garvally House is clearly the best B&B around.

This was a very last minute find when other plans changed and I found the hosts Very friendly and obliging. This is a very well appointed and luxurious home. The lovely setting, convenience to Stirling by train and the service would make this guest house Great for a longer stay than I had.

A bit apprehensive about staying in a small hotel but had a great stay – if in the area would head straight here – nice room, great breakfast, super hosts!! Had the smallest room but it was fine for one night with all I needed.

A Hidden Gem

The Garvally is warm and welcoming just like its owners Michael and Naomi.
The bed was as big and comfortable as I’ve ever slept in. The ensuite was well equipped and the finishing touches of a tot of whiskey and home made Scottish shortbread were a delight.
Best of all was the quality of the breakfast; fresh fruit accompanied by home made fruit compote and yoghurt; home made bread; honey from their own bees; free range eggs from their own chickens; locally sourced sausage and bacon; a wide selection of specially blended teas; excellent!

Very amiable hosts; excellent breakfast with self-made bread and yogurt; pleasant and comfortable room but unfortunately situated with view on industrial area. Very helpful hosts to plan trips and dining.

On arrival I was made very welcome by Naomi and shown to my room, which was beautifully decorated and well proportioned. Getting into bed later that evening was like slipping into a cloud – I don’t know how she does it but the sheets were so soft that a god night’s sleep was a given! The bathroom was large, spotless and well equipped. There was even cake and a wee dram awaiting my arrival, which was a lovely surprise!

The hotel does not offer an evening meal, but the town is only a 5 minute walk away, and the sumptuous breakfast was worth getting up for! Michael even makes his own bread, which was delicious.

Stayed 1 night in Garvally House and the owners Michael & Niomi made me feel most welcome. I stayed in the blue room which is quality and in keeping with the rest of the property. The breakfast is lovely with a good choice of locally produced fare. The whole place, the food and the house is very upmarket and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this top class guest house to all. If I’m ever in this part of Scotland in the future, I will be booking this place for my stay. Book with confidence

My negatives first: It is NOT easy to find without GPS, so be sure to get very precise directions. We ended up driving around for over an hour after an already-long drive!

Once we finally found it, it was lovely. We enjoyed some conversation and wine with the hosts, and had a nice dinner in a near-by Italian restaurant. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower was lovely. Breakfast was enough for 6, and everything was great. Naomi is a lovely hostess and cook.

Where do I start with this establishment?
Efficient and friendly first contact over the phone when I made my booking. Clear directions on how to get to Alloa by train and then from the station to Garvally House.
A short walk and no need for a taxi unless you have heavy luggage.
Simply stunning house. Huge high-ceiling rooms. Classy decor and yet retains a homely feel.
The bedroom was stunning. Absolutely HUGE bed with two different duvets – one on each side of the bed so a choice of weight and warmth. Plenty of very comfortable pillows. Fabulous and classy decor. Wardrobe with plenty of proper hangers. None of these annoying hangers that you cannot remove and properly hang your clothes on.
Dressing gowns provided.
The other cabinet in the room contained a bit TV, hospitality tray, a decanter of whisky and pretty little glasses.
Also home made fruit cake with butter icing. Amazing.
Dressing table, hairdryer and magazines by the bed. One side of the bed has magazines designed to appeal to men e.g. car racing and the other side of the bed has magazines likely to appeal to women.Absolutely beautiful and thick curtains.
The bathroom is also huge and has 2 sinks and a fab shower including a rain shower.
But the toiletries have to be seen to be believed. They even provide toothpaste x 2 plus lovely shampoos/conditioners/facecloths etc. Real 5 star quality.
I usually don’t have breakfast but I had a long working day ahead of me that day so decided to have breakfast and was so glad that I did.
Beautiful fresh fruit with yoghurt (home made by Michael). Poached eggs cooked to perfection. Gorgeous fresh break and honey. Michael keeps bees.
Beautiful dining room.
The hosts Naomi and Michael are perfect hosts. Friendly but certainly not intrusive and really can’t do enough for you.
I regretted that I was working that day. It would have been wonderful to have stayed in that gorgeous bed and then strolled down to breakfast to be eaten at leisure.
Perhaps for another day.
Thank you Naomi and Michael.

The Garvally has to be one of the very best B&Bs we have ever stayed at . On arrival we were offered a cup of tea along with some very nice home baking , much appreciated, this was just the start of some very good old fashioned , quality, customer service.
A great sleep , great breakfast , a great stay ! Ten out of ten to the friendly owners and would certainly stay here again if in the area.

I loved my stay at this B&B. The owners were charming, friendly and accomodating. I have very complicated dietery requirements being both lactose intolerant and vegetarian. I gave the owners notice of this and I genuinely feel that they bent over backwards to feed me a 5 star breakfast. The rooms are beautiful and the bathrooms lavish. Just loved it!

This is a very overdue review – we stayed in April when visiting family in Alloa. The room (Green Room) was superb – comfortable and stylish. The welcome from Naomi and Michael was exceptionally warm and the breakfasts were AMAZING! (Best yoghurt I’ve had!). We will definitely stay here again next time we are visiting Alloa.

I only spent one night at Garvally House but I would happily go back again if in the area. I read nothing but good reviews in advance of my booking and my experience was excellent as well. The owners, Michael and Naomi, were very accommodating hosts but not intrusive. Michael provided good local recommendations for both a restaurant and a golf course nearby and went out of his way to help. Breakfast was excellent, the room was comfy and quiet — what more do you need? I stayed in a room without an en suite bathroom but had a large, modern, private bathroom just outside of the door so this was more than adequate.

The location is about 15 minutes from the center of Stirling and less than an hour’s drive from Edinburgh. Highly recommended.
